How to look your best for your video conference call

Last night as I was pulling into the parking lot of the grocery store, I saw a man holding his video conference call in the parking lot. He had his communication device on a tripod with a light and microphone.

I think traveling restrictions etc have effected us all. I have a training that was supposed to take place in Las Vegas but is now being held via conference call. I am not gonna lie this initially made me super nervous. I never Facetime anyone. I despise being seen on any type of video call. However I thought about the things I could do to not look like a monster on my video call. That way I can focus on what I am there to learn.

So here are my tips for taking the guess work out of Rocking that call

1. LIGHTING

This is the most crucial aspect to a video call. You can not correct bad lighting. Set yourself up where lighting is good anytime of day. Preferably natural light but if the call is at night then look into buying a small portable ring light that can transfer with you anywhere you go. If that is not an option then set the background wallpaper on your computer to a light white background and minimize the video call on your screen. All of these tricks separate you from the background.

2. DE CLUTTER YOUR BACKDROP

A cluttered backdrop is very unprofessional. A lifestyle backdrop is ideal. This is a very minimal background with just a few key pieces about you or business. Make sure to separate yourself from the background enough so the camera focuses on you and not anything that may be behind you.

3. USING THE RIGHT CAMERA

Upgrade the video on your computer. The video quality of most computers is pretty bad. Hop on Amazon and purchase an external video device for your computer. Logitech is a great brand and less than $100

4. PICK THE RIGHT CLOTHES

Wear a clean solid print top. No patterns or crazy necklines. Do not wear strapless ladies!!!! You look naked

5. MAKEUP

Wear a little more makeup than you usually would. Bronzer helps you to not look so 2 dimensional. Concealer is a must!!!!!! Dark circles are the number one flaw seen on a video call. Whatever you do.... Don't skip the blush. It makes you look fresh and healthy. Video calls usually wash you out and make you look tired. Blush prevents this from happening

Well I hope that helped some. If you have any more questions don't hesitate to reach out and ask!
