Jenny Puranen Photography knows first hand in the world of acting just how important it is to choose the right outfits for your headshots. I am Jenny, expert photographer and owner of Jenny Puranen Photography. A photography studio known for vibrant fun  headshots. One thing you probably didn’t know about me is that I  am a fellow actress! Yep, you heard right! And not only that but I have 2 kids of my own ages 7 and 9 that alongside their manager, I help Represent. I am well versed in what casting is looking for when it comes to headshots. I am here to make you stand out from the crowd. We have a long list of successful bookings and I will share tips and guide you so you show your true self to casting and potential agents. I am happy you are here and I want to provide you with some inspiration when it comes to selecting your outfits for your upcoming headshot session!

I tell parents to pick 3-4 looks to bring with you and always bring a outfit or 2 extra. The way I try and decide which looks to bring is by looking back through casting sites at past auditions. Does your child tend to audition for girl/boy next door? athlete or fitness? That can give you some ideas of what looks you want to choose. I tell my clients to have 1 photo per look on your casting site then your agent or you can use that photo when submitting to a certain role. ALWAYS check with your agent or manager before attending your headshot session. Ask them for suggestions for what photos they would like to have of your child

Here are some looks to consider when choosing your clothing

  • FITNESS / ATHLETE
  • QUIRKY
  • KID NEXT DOOR
  • NERD
  • WHOLESOME
  • COMEDIC
  • TOUGH

After you have decided on the 3-4 looks you want to go with, the fun really begins!

Now its time to dig through your closet and see what pieces you have that brings these looks to life.

Here is a helpful tip for your search......

  •  The number one recommendation I have for you is no LOGOS.

This may seem like a no brainer but I can't tell you how many times I have been on set to find a producer telling a child in background to go to wardrobe and find something else because they can read Adidas or whatever brand on their shirt. I can't say it enough times PLAIN, PLAIN, PLAIN. Pick a solid color shirt in a color that accentuates your child's eyes or skin tone. No crazy patterns, prints or yes... I am going to say it again... No logos or writing of any kind please.

I know you are saying to yourself, "this sounds boring, how will my child stand out from the crowd?" The way to turn that solid shirt into a fun look is with layers! Same rules apply but bring a jacket or cardigan. Another choice is to accessorize. Again not too over the top but a fun hat, beanie, glasses (with lenses popped out, I provide these as well)

If you don't see what you need in your closet or you just need a little something fun I have these suggestions
