When it comes to choosing the right outfit for your family photo shoot. The choices you make can make or break a great Holiday Photo (no pressure hahaha)

Seriously though, I should know. I am Jenny Puranen with Jenny Puranen Photography LLC. A Los Angeles based photography company and studio that specializes in Family photography as well as Maternity, Newborn, Head shots and High school Senior portraits. I have been photographing families for over 10 years. I have seen every color combination and style you can imagine! I can honestly give you my expert opinion on what you should or shouldn't consider when choosing outfits not just for yourself but the whole family.

#1 is location

Before you even start to dream of that perfect family outfit combo...... decide where you want these photos to take place. If you are on year 5 of beach photos maybe try out an urban setting or a park! Obviously each outfit combination will vary when it comes to the location. For the beach I always recommend lighter hues of blue, grey or neutrals. For the park nothing pops more to me than earthy or Jewel tones!

#2 start with mom

I always, always, always suggest starting with Mom and which outfit will let her glow!!! Despite popular belief, fitted is your friend!!! Mom when you wear super loose clothing you get lost in it. Find that outfit that fits just right and shows off your best assets!! Once you feel confident in your choice, then its time to choose for the rest of the family.

#3 Coordinate

I suggest one outfit having a multi colored pattern. Sometimes its moms but sometimes it could be the daughter's dress or son's shirt.. For the rest of the family you can pick a color out of that pattern and wear a solid shirt in that color. That is how you coordinate! You don't ever want to be matchy. As cute as it may be, don't dress your kids in matching outfits and don't dress your boy in a top that is the same color as his pants.
