MY LATEST HEAD SHOT! YES, PHOTOGRAPHERS MUST KEEP THESE UP TO DATE TOO

Having a good head shot does more than just show people what you look like. A good head shot will help to create a connection by showing potential clients your personality. If you have a grumpy looking head shot, people will associate that with your company. A good head shot will capture you in a way that portrays confidence, yet friendly and approachable. Head shots have changed in style, traditional head shots have utilized the standard blue and grey backgrounds. The more modern head shots utilize a more open less limited look and look less stuffy.

I see some comments saying that you should only update when you change your look or that it is not that important. One of the things keeping an updated photo does is shows that you are up to date, current, viable and relevant. When I see a profile that says they've been in business for so many years and their photo is old, that says the opposite.

Head shots, in general, are not that costly and are tax deductible.

Many professionals might think they are able to survive the business world without a professional head shot. After all, it is difficult to carve time out of a busy schedule and it seems like a lengthy process.

However, a professional headshot is imperative in order to have a successful career – it sets the tone of what message the person is trying to convey professionally.

There are several industries and positions where a headshot is absolutely vital. You might ask yourself, “who needs a headshot?” and should I be getting one? Maybe I’m biased, but I think everybody should have a great headshot these days. Here are a few of the professions and industries we have identified as those who should definitely have a professional headshot.

Here is a list of professionals

who need to Look at their Headshot right now

and ask themselves if its time to schedule an appointment

  • Entrepreneurs
  • Those active on LinkedIn
  • Aspiring models and actors
  • Management Teams

Then there are specific professions where a headshot is the front door to doing business with customers. Real estate agents put headshots on their business cards, property for-sale signs, their website home page, and more. This is because they know that a warm and confident smile in a headshot can literally entice a would-be customer to inquire. The same is true of an attorney’s ad on the side of a bus, an accountant’s billboard, a doctor’s poster, and so on for: consultant, designer, financial advisor, marketing manager, pharmacist, recruiter, psychologist, sales manager, veterinarian, etc.

** ANYONE ACTIVELY APPLYING FOR A JOB NEEDS TO HAVE AN UPDATED HEADSHOT MINE IS EVEN ON MY RESUME**

So when it came time for me to have my headshots updated all of the parameters were true for me as well. After a recent move to Southern California I knew it was time to update my look. I needed to schedule the time, find the right photographer, decide what look/looks I wanted. I do run my own business and need one for website / instagram / facebook page but I am also on Linkedin.com and am applying to jobs such as Photo intern at Sony, CBS etc....

I wanted a fun look to portray my real personality.. vibrant, happy and full of life but I also wanted a more professional look to use for corporate applications

when it came to the photographer I had no doubt who I wanted to use. I have adored Los Angeles Photographer Holly Lynch's Headshot work for years. She has taken photos of us in the past and not only does she have a super creative eye but she is a cool person to work with and really make you relax see more of her work here....

You may find yourself asking do I go further and take more time and money to have my hair and makeup professionally done?

For any Photoshoot and especially HEADSHOTS my answer is always YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A professional photoshoot makeup artist know exactly what products to use and where to apply them. Makeup artists also know exactly how certain types of makeup will affect how the photographs turn out, as well as how light will affect the makeup shades and they work with your face. As far as photography is concerned, you want to view your face as a clean canvas to begin with before adding color. You may not think it will unless you are a professional photographer, but the makeup colors you choose for photoshoots will directly impact how your photographs turn out. You want the makeup, clothing, hair style and wardrobe to work with your face, and not against it. A makeup artist’s job is helping you make sure all these factors come together to make the best photographs and portray you in the best possible light.

Having a professional makeup artist will make you feel more confident about the photoshoot and more at ease in general. In any photoshoot, you want to be as relaxed as possible, as your demeanor will have an impact on the way your images turn out. You want to focus on your poses, facial expressions, and posing well for the shoot in general. You will have one less thing to worry about by having a great makeup artist on hand, which will also increase your confidence knowing that a professional just did a fantastic job on your makeup!

Look At Having a Professional Makeup Artist As An Investment in Yourself!

You already made the intelligent decision to hire a professional photographer to capture your professional photos and/or executive portraits. Go the extra mile and hire a professional photoshoot makeup artist as well! Remember, whatever the original reason to have the photoshoot, the photos taken can be cross-used in different settings. If you have a corporate shoot with professional headshots, you may also want to use those photos for your professional profile, website and a multitude of other ways. Please note that if the pictures are from a company photoshoot or one that you did not pay for specifically for your use, you need to make sure you are licensed/authorized to use the photos before using them in other ways.

A professional photo shoot has so many benefits and is one of the most important factors in how you present yourself aside from physically being there, so make sure you ensure the photography session has the best outcome by hiring a professional makeup artist to be as certain as possible it turns out great!

Hiring a photoshoot makeup artist is well worth it for many different reasons. Makeup artists have the experience needed to make sure you present yourself in the very best way, will add to your confidence level during the shoot, and will eliminate you having to choose makeup that may not look as great in the photos as it does in everyday wear. In many cases, your photo is the first impression people have of you, and first impressions count!

So make sure your photos are the best they can be by hiring not only a professional photographer but a great makeup artist as well. Your professional photographer should have a database of excellent makeup artists you can select from.
